Personal Development
Personal Development at Kelsall
Personal development is at the heart of all we do at Kelsall Primary and Nursery School; nurturing confident, resilient and ethical individuals and laying the foundation for becoming great citizens in an ever-changing world. Fundamental aspects of this include;
Building Self-Esteem and Confidence
The primary years are the time when children begin to form their self-concept. Through positive reinforcement, constructive feedback, and encouragement, we help children build self-esteem and confidence in our school. This, in turn, helps them approach challenges positively.
Social Skills
Developing social skills is a key aspect of personal growth. We advocate a crew culture, where children are taught how to interact effectively with peers and understand the value of and practice effective communication. These skills are essential for building relationships, resolving conflicts, and working collaboratively in the future.
Emotional Intelligence
At Kelsall Primary and Nursery School, we understand the importance of teaching children to recognise and manage their emotions. Through strong relationships, a crew culture and the Conscious Discipline model of behaviour management, we help children to develop empathy, improve interpersonal relationships and make sound decisions based on emotional awareness.
Creative and Critical Thinking
We believe that creative and critical thinking are essential skills our children need to have it they are to become ethical adults with a desire to change the world and not just maintain the status quo. Our curriculum puts great value on creative and critical thinking through six ‘habits of creativity’:
- Collaborative
- Inquisitive
- Care
- Reflective
- Persistent
- Imaginative
Values Education
Through our No Outsiders curriculum and British Values education, we teach the values of respect, responsibility, integrity and kindness, which are essential in fostering a strong sense of morality and ethics.
Cultural Awareness and Diversity
Our society is diverse, and it is essential for our children to develop cultural awareness and an appreciation for diversity from an early age. Through our No Outsiders curriculum, we actively promote tolerance, open-mindedness and the strength of character to challenge discrimination as we prepare children to be respectful global citizens.
Healthy Lifestyle Choices
We teach our children about nutrition, exercise, and the importance of a healthy lifestyle which sets the foundation for a lifetime of good health habits.
A Love for Learning
We prepare our children for future learning and success through their educational journey and beyond. The skills and attitudes developed during their primary years contribute significantly to their ability to adapt, learn, and thrive in a rapidly changing world.
